Why Asia’s Typhoon Season Targeted Vietnam This Year
You probably heard about Hurricane Maria as it killed hundreds of people across the Caribbean Sea in September and Hurricane Harvey’s flooding in the U.S. city of Houston a month earlier.
But do you know about Kirogi, a tropical storm of near-typhoon proportions that made landfall in Vietnam Monday with winds of at least 63 kilometers per hour? What about Talas, which killed 14 people in Vietnam in July? Although they caused losses less dramatic than what Harvey or Maria inflicted, these storms joined a pack of others in delivering Vietnam one of its more severe weather years along with vast swathes of soaking destruction.
